Many moons ago when I was a poor college student, I asked my dad's girlfriend, a chef, for advice on cooking on the cheap. The first thing that came out of her mouth was "whole chicken."

I thought she was crazy, because I couldn't comprehend why an entire chicken would be more cost effective when all I would use was the meat.

I could rewrite it here, but this guy summed it up fairly well:

The Simple Dollar —The Frugal Whole Chicken (or, Waste Not, Want Not)

The broth that I make from a whole chicken is some of the yummiest because I can make it to my specifications. It's pretty handy to have that extra chicken in the freezer, too.

Do you have any uses for whole chicken besides what The Simple Dollar suggested? I'd love to hear them.
